Fundraising Ideas

We need volunteers to help us make our target and we really appreciate it when people give up their valuable time to help us. We need young and old alike, individuals and groups of friends or work colleagues can all help us.

There are lots of way that you can help – you may wish to use your expertise and help with things that you are good at, or you may wish to try something completely different. Either way, we will give you as much or as little support as you wish!

If you need some inspiration, have a look at this set of ideas:

Enlist the help of a local valuer/dealer… Make admission charge to include drink/nibbles and a couple of items to be valued (charge £1 for each additional item)… could also have raffle tombola, bric a brac stalls to raise extra funds.

Always popular – Need prizes for the winners and someone to put together/ask the questions (quiz sheets available on the internet). Funds can be raised from team entry fee (say £4 per team of four), supper, raffle etc. Could ask each team to donate a prize for the raffle…

Produce quiz sheets with a theme (flowers, famous people, countries, cities etc or perhaps general knowledge). Sell sheets for £1 each to family, friends and work colleagues. Need someone to put together the questions/answers and one good prize.

Minimal cost – spectacular returns if you can identify something that will attract a lot of attention: abseil, run, walk, keep fit, fire engine pull, etc. Make as interesting as possible – maybe in fancy dress, with local celebrities, sportsmen, councillors etc taking part. Sponsor forms available from the appeal office.

Hold in busy areas – supermarkets, markets, shopping centres, and leisure centres etc. Make it different, choose a theme: Valentines – chocolates, plants/flowers, cuddly toys, sparkling wine: Gardening, in the spring – pots of spring bulbs, tools, plants, seeds, gloves, pots etc: Easter – easter eggs, soft toys (bunny’s, chicks etc.), Christmas

Ideal for Spring, summer, autumn, or Christmas. Need not take a lot of organising: book venue and ask volunteers to stock and man specific stalls – cakes, plants, books, raffle, tombola, bric a brac, annual draw tickets, crafts, refreshments etc. Charge 50p admission

Hire a venue. Sell tables @ anything from £10-£15 (depending on your costs and the type of venue). Ask each stall holder to donate a raffle prize. Advertise widely in the local press for 2-3 weeks before event. Raise funds from table hire, small admission charge, sale of refreshments, tombola, raffle, souvenirs etc.

Beverley, Bridlington, Goole, Pocklington etc. all have charity market stalls available. Tombola, Books, Bric a brac, Cakes etc. Contact the local council for details.
